Course Duration:
4-hours

Course Location:
Client’s premises or a Training Venue can be arranged

Course Intention:
This course is intended for personnel who are required to work in hazardous areas where there is the potential to be exposed to flammable, toxic or oxygen deficient atmospheres. It provides participants with the necessary skills to competently perform routine gas testing prior to performing hot work in a hazardous area, entering a confined space or detecting for other specific gases that have the potential to be flammable, explosive, toxic or oxygen depleting.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course participants should be able to::
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the different properties and hazards of the most common gases that occur within operations specific to your site
  • Demonstrate the correct gas testing procedure
  • Demonstrate the most effective location for detecting the most common gases
  • Recognise and competently operate the different portable gas detectors used by industry.
Course Contents:
  • Responsibilities of Gas Testers
  • Common gases detected in the workplace (ie - Oxygen, Methane, Hydrogen Sulphide)
  • Basic Properties of flammable liquids and gases (ie. Explosive Ranges, Toxicology, Vapour Pressure, Flash point, Boiling point, Ignition sources LEL and UEL)
  • Principles of Fire and Explosion
  • Classification of hazardous substances
  • Gas Detection Process
