Office Safety/Ergonomics

Course Duration:

2 hours


Course Location: 

All OH&S Consulting training is performed face to face at your premises or a Training Venue can be arranged (at an additional fee).


Course Intention: 

This course is intended to provide the office worker with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively operate in the office work environment. The Office Safety course has a practical component where participants are assessed at their individual work-stations. This course is best run in-house.


All attendees will receive a certificate of attendance.

Learning Objectives & Outcomes: 

Upon completion of this course participants should be able to:

  • Identify the major hazards associated with office based work.

  • Understand the physical factors involved in setting up an office work station.

  • Effectively set up their own work station to accommodate their individual needs and the work to be performed.

  • To recall and demonstrate office stretches in order to prevent repetitive strains and sprain injuries.


Course Contents: 

  • Recognising occupational overuse injuries.

  • The importance of work station design.

  • Individual factors:

    • physical dimensions,

    • job tasks and

    • posture.

  • Setting up the work station, practical session, individual ergonomic work station setup.

  • Managing physical factors:

    • heat,

    • ventilation,

    • noise and

    • lighting.

  • Prevention of occupational overuse syndrome (OOS).

  • Office Stretches and ergonomic rest breaks.

  • Safe Work Practices:

    • task rotation,

    • breaks,

    • postures and

    • utilising office equipment effectively.

  • Housekeeping in the office setting.

  • Coping with stress and workload (Setting of realistic goals and deadlines.
