Alison (Ali) Martins, has held the role of Principal Consultant/Director and Manager of OH&S Consulting since September 1995.  In 2020 Ali celebrates OH&S Consulting’s 25th year in operation, she has been directly involved in the provision of comprehensive safety and health solutions for over 35 years. 

 

Ali has attained a Masters of Public Health from Curtin University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Science (Advanced Specialisation Occupational Health and Safety) and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Nursing.  She is an accredited WorkSafe Plan Assessor and AS 4801 Lead Auditor.

Prior to starting OH&S Consulting in 1995, Ali was employed as the in-house safety and health advisor for multi-national corporations in industries such as petrochemical, manufacturing and construction. 

 

The decision to work from a home was made after the birth of her first child.  This allowed her to embrace the role of motherhood whilst continuing to work in her profession and be mentally stimulated.  From those early days the business has now grown into a thriving boutique OSH Consultancy, it still operates out of her home but is now a large home office separate from the rest of the house.

 

A firm believer in affecting change in health and safety she has previously held the position of President of the Occupational Health Society of Australia (WA) Inc.  She served on the Executive body of this professional association for several years and actively participated in working parties addressing Draft OSH publications, such as; WorkSafe WA OSH Act and Regulations, Manual Handling Code of Practice etc.

 

Alison brings a strong management focus to the consultancy with demonstrated success in marketing difficult safety and health issues, development and implementation of safety management systems, facilitation of Risk Assessment and proven performance in applied safety and health training.

Her professional interests include Risk Management (hazard id, risk assessment and incident investigation), and assisting companies fortify their existing Safety Management Systems or helping them to develop robust Safety Management Systems in alignment with client and regulatory requirements.

Ali has provided strategic safety solutions to industries that include Construction, Manufacturing, Oil and Gas, Mining (surface & underground), Mining Exploration, Electrical Contractors, Power Generation, Medico-legal, Bio-Science, Maintenance contractors along with many other heavy industrial contract service companies. 

 

Ali enjoys recreational activities such as sailing and boating but is quick to qualify her role as that of “pure deck fluff”, is never one to say no to a good game of cards and is a passionate follower of AFL football.
